In the UK driving test, you'll be asked to perform one of four maneuvers: pulling up on the right, reversing back for two car lengths, parallel parking, or parking in a bay(either reversing in and driving out or driving in and reversing out).
Here's a breakdown of the maneuvers:
Pulling up on the right and reversing:
This involves pulling up on the right-hand side of the road, reversing for about two car lengths, and then safely rejoining the traffic.
Parallel parking:
This tests your ability to park the vehicle in a parking space parallel to the road.
Bay parking:
You'll be asked to either reverse into a bay and drive out, or drive into a bay and reverse out.
Emergency stop:
You may be asked to perform an emergency stop, which tests your ability to bring the vehicle to a halt quickly and safely.
What the Examiner is Looking For
Examiners are not necessarily looking for a flawless, one-take performance. They are assessing your control, observation, and accuracy.
Control:
Keeping the vehicle at a slow, manageable speed and keeping within parking lines or close to the kerb.
Observation:
Continuously checking your mirrors and blind spots throughout the entire manoeuvre, especially when reversing or rejoining traffic.
Corrections:
Making small, safe adjustments if your positioning is slightly off
